Laveen Moves to a Standards-Based Grading System

Beginning in the 2017-18 school year, Laveen will be utilizing a standards-based grading system which allows us to better communicate with parents on the progress students are making toward mastering the academic standards. Students’ grades for each subject area will be reported in two separate categories: academic achievement and effort. The academic grades will  include assignments or tests that measure the students’ mastery of the learning standards. The effort grades will include such things as class assignments, homework, and participation.

David Glasser Foundation Supplies 1st Graders with Backpacks

July 27 was a special night for Cheatham first graders as they received free backpacks and school supplies from the David Glasser Foundation.  First graders were treated to pizza and games while interacting Phoenix Police Officers. They also had the opportunity to watch a K9 demonstration, control a robot, and hop on the Bearcat. The event was part of the foundation’s first give back event honoring our community’s fallen officer. Peter Piper Pizza hosted the event.

Laveen Lions Club Provides School Supplies to All Laveen Schools

The Laveen Lions provided backpacks and school supplies to each of our eight schools. Each school received 50 backpacks, composition notebooks, eraser packs, boxes of pencils, and pencil bags. They also received 250 notebooks, 100 packs of loose leaf paper, and 150 pocket folders. The schools determined how the supplies were to be distributed to students.
