Move On When Reading

A.R.S. § 15-701 states that if a student scores below the cut score on the reading portion of the 3rd grade AzMERIT exam, he/she will not be promoted to the 4th grade until sufficient progress is made to demonstrate that the student is reading proficiently.

Laveen schools are committed to providing a strong core reading program and supplemental services to ensure our students are successful readers. We offer additional academic support during the school day through intervention classes, small group tutoring, and frequent progress monitoring. We also offer extended day learning opportunities through after-school tutoring, Saturday School, and Summer School. Please contact your child’s teacher for additional information regarding reading support for our K-3 students.

For more information regarding Move On When Reading, visit the Arizona Department of Education’s website

The best reading support you can give your child is to read daily with him or her. A suggested 20 minutes a day is great, but more is even better. So, grab a book and read!
