Move On When Reading

A.R.S. § 15-701 states that beginning with the 2013-14 school year, a pupil may not be promoted from the third grade if the pupil obtains a score on the reading portion of the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards test (AIMS) or a successor test, that demonstrates that the pupil’s reading falls far below the third grade level.

Laveen schools are committed to providing a strong core reading program and supplemental services to ensure our students are successful readers. We offer additional academic support during the school day through intervention classes, small group tutoring, and frequent progress monitoring. We also offer extended day learning opportunities through after school tutoring, Saturday School, and Summer School. Please contact your child’s teacher for additional information regarding reading supports for our K-3 students.

The best reading support you can give your child is to read daily with him or her. A suggested 20 minutes a day is great, but more is even better. So, grab a book and read!
